Feeling the Chill – Stretching the Organic Garden Into the Fall

Al Johnson

Harvest should not stop at first frost.  Many crops thrive in the cool weather of the fall and can provide fresh produce until Christmas and beyond.  This workshop will inspire and teach you to grow these fall crops.  We will cover appropriate crops and varieties, planting options, planting dates, crop rotations, meeting your fertility needs, bed preparation and some simple storage techniques.  Concentration will be on crops planted after the summer solstice.

Al farmed organically for 12 years & has now been an organic farm inspector for 28 years.  He has grown organically for over 40 years and is a Certified Horticulture Teacher.  He grows most of his family’s produce and has taught gardening workshops throughout the northeast since the 1970s. Al has been a board member of NOFA since 1980.
