Description
Permaculture provides a framework for approaching local landscapes based on their individual characteristics, attributes, and limitations in order to develop site specific, ecologically integrated, design. Natural systems teach us that all aspects of a healthy ecology factor into the functionality and health of an interconnected ecosystem. How we choose to approach and design our gardens, farms, landscapes, and homes has deeper resonance throughout the surrounding environment. Crafting a vision for your project through the lens of permaculture principles and ethics provides a solid foundation for implementing a holistic approach to your local landscape and affecting positive change that radiates out into the surrounding ecology and cultural mindset.
Join us for a weekend long permaculture design intensive where we will explore foundational concepts, techniques, and approaches for small to large scale land management and design strategies for maximizing productive output and minimizing waste. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects to the table as we devote a portion of the weekend to workshopping and developing your site specific design. The program will be hosted at Fields Without Fences small farm located in Frenchtown, NJ, where we will explore in-the-ground applications on our 5 year old site, including water management systems, ponds, polycultures, forest gardens, and successional management strategies. Beginners and experienced permaculture practitioners alike will benefit from this intensive aimed at empowering you to develop and refine your approach and interaction with living systems. Let this course be the fertile soil to grow your understanding of permaculture design from the ground up!
This course is outdoors and interactive, so please dress accordingly. Bring a brown bag lunch and water.
